Vietnam Work Permit for Foreign Workers: Required Documents & Process
Foreign employees working in Vietnam are legally required to obtain a Work Permit or an official Work Permit Exemption certificate pursuant to the 2019 Labour Code and Decree 152/2020/ND-CP (amended by Decree 70/2023/ND-CP).
1. Required Document Checklist for 2026
- Work Permit Application Form (Form No. 11/PLI under Decree 70/2023/ND-CP).
- Foreign Labour Demand Approval Letter issued by the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (DOLISA).
- Health Certificate issued by an authorized hospital in Vietnam or abroad (valid within 12 months).
- Police Clearance Certificate (Criminal Record) issued within the last 6 months.
- Professional Qualification Credentials:
- Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of relevant managerial/expert experience confirmation letter.
- Two passport-sized colour photos (4x6 cm, white background).
- Certified true copy of valid Passport.
2. Consular Legalization Requirements
All foreign degrees, certificates, and overseas police records must undergo Consular Legalization and be officially translated into Vietnamese.
